Our Legacy

Malisani Inc. is a fourth-generation, family-owned company with deep roots in craftsmanship, commitment, and community. Our story begins in 1920, when Art Malisani emigrated from Ceressato, Italy, to the United States aboard the vessel America. At just 18 years old—and having already endured time in a concentration camp—he arrived with a strong work ethic and an unwavering determination to build a better life. By 1926, Art had become a naturalized citizen and began working as a skilled stone mason.

Founding Years: 1928–1950s

In 1928, Art purchased a tile and terrazzo business from the DeMarco family and founded Malisani Tile and Terrazzo, specializing in terrazzo, marble, and tile work. Alongside his brothers Abele and Angelo, Art laid the foundation—literally and figuratively—for a company rooted in quality and precision. His craftsmanship can still be seen today in public buildings across Montana, including courthouses, schools, and dams.

By 1935, Art built a warehouse at 1101 Eighth Avenue North in Great Falls—our home ever since. In 1959, a truck dock addition was constructed to accommodate growing logistical needs.

Second Generation & Expansion: 1970s–1980s

Upon Art’s passing in 1972, his son Arthur John Malisani purchased the company and renamed it Malisani Inc. Just two years later, Art Malisani Jr. worked on the terrazzo flooring at the Great Falls Airport—a testament to the hands-on legacy passed from father to son.

The 1970s and ’80s marked a period of growth. A showroom and office were added to the warehouse in 1978, with major projects including Columbus Hospital (now Benefis), Great Falls Airport, and CMR High School. Arthur John Malisani Jr. joined the company full-time in 1980, followed by his brother Anthony (Tony) Malisani in 1989. To support growth, a new warehouse was constructed at 808 11th Street North.

Craftsmanship Recognized: 1990s–2000s

The 1990s brought industry recognition. In 1993, Art Malisani received the AIA Craftsman of the Year award for a stone and glass block shower. In 1999, Malisani Inc. was named Montana Small Business of the Year by Montana State University’s College of Business.

To support growing granite fabrication, another warehouse was added in 1994 at 800 11th Street North, and the company became an active member of the Marble Institute of America (MIA) to stay on the forefront of stone innovation.

After the passing of Arthur John Malisani in 2002, his sons Art Jr. and Tony carried on the family tradition, completing award-winning projects like the Missouri River terrazzo design at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.

Modernization & National Recognition: 2000s–2010s

In 2004, Malisani Inc. opened a new facility in the North Park Industrial Park to expand its Monuments and Memorials Division, which launched in 2001.

Tony Malisani became a leading voice in the stone industry, serving on the MIA Accreditation Board in 2006 and later being named President of the Marble Institute of America in 2014. Under his leadership, Malisani Inc. became the 6th company in the U.S. to earn the title of Accredited Natural Stone Fabricator–Charter Member.

Strategic partnerships followed, including becoming the exclusive Cambria Quartz distributor in Great Falls in 2008. Accolades include:

  • 2009 MCA Specialty Contractor of the Year

  • 2009 Great Falls Tribune Medium Business of the Year

  • 2010 Great Falls Chamber Business of the Quarter

  • Featured in the University of Tennessee’s Recycling Stone Case Study

  • Spotlighted in Stone Business Magazine (2010)

Carrying the Legacy Forward: 2010s–Today
